Neurofeedback

What is Neurofeedback (EEG Biofeedback)?

Every activity (brain state) involves a neuro chemical process that creates electrical brainwave patterns. From sleeping, eating, problem solving, meditating, listening and dreaming to feeling happy, planning, playing sports and arguing, every emotional state has a dominant brainwave frequency involved. When these patterns get stuck, surge or are under aroused, often it may affect an individual’s emotional stability, making it hard to focus and/or sleep, creating a variety of concerns.

Neurofeedback uses computer technology to turn brainwave signals into information the Central Nervous System (CNS) can process. When this data is mirrored back to itself, it invites the brain to begin the process of balancing its rhythms, creating more of some of its electrical frequencies and less of others. This type of training gives the CNS feedback on what the brain is doing, allowing one’s system to self-regulate. Neurofeedback helps the body to achieve a meditative state, moving the CNS from rigidity, repetition and reactivity to a more proactive, flexible and stable system.

Neurofeedback is noninvasive, drug-free and has few side affects! Our bodies are naturally inclined to promote a state of homeostasis, and when feedback is provided, our brainwave frequencies balance for situational appropriateness.

How is Neurofeedback done?

Training sessions are done in the clinic with a Neurofeedback Technician. Small electrodes are attached to the head and ears with conductivity paste before training begins. The process is noninvasive and painless. Sessions typically start out on a two time per week basis, often changing to once a week for an approximate total of 20 to 40 sessions
